Read Through "The Giver"
Through chapter 1-4 I learned that Jonas is an 11 year old boy who lives in a very strict a someway perfect community but there seems to be a lot of rules they should follow. Jonas shows to to more friends one named Asher a very funny but at the same way clumsy and Fiona a friend who is very caring to other people. During those days a ceremony in which they celebrated the new year of every child approached. For the community of Jonas they always would have to say how each one of them feels and Jonas feels apprehensive which it's not really scared but nervous and cautions at the same time. As for his little sister Lily she is very exited because she will get her new bicycle. The community of Jonas is really rigid and full of rules which don´t allow all citizens express well.
In chapter 1 page number 5 I found a conversation/reaction that made me realize that Jonas community is very proud of themselves . The quote was:
"Why do you think the visitors didn´t obey the rules?"
Mother asked
Lily considered, and shook her head. "I don´t know. They acted like... like..."
"Animals?" Jonas suggested. He laughed.
"That´s right," Lily said, laughing too. "Like animals."
I find it really interesting that they treat different people badly, they see them just like animals. While I read this I immediately though to myself if the kid is not following the rules why not teach him in a nice and polite way. But instead they see him with disgusting and anger eyes. This told me that this community is very closed minded to other people they think they are on top of the others instead of trying to help everyone be at the same level
Jonas community is hiding something big maybe that the reason why they don´t let other people who may not obey the rules because if they don´t follow the rules they may find out the secrete and destroy everything. So they have to use fear and pride to keep everyone from knowing whatever the secrete is. But what if fear and pride is not enough what if someone awakes curiosity of what is happening in there why are they so exclusive and why the people of elsewhere isn´t there with them? That could be something that may break up all this system.
Patrick I like how you introduce the book in the first sentence of your blog.
ReplyDeleteThe images you add in your blog are really original, because some people put the same images over and over again.
